The Pros Know

People always say, “push yourself because no one else is going to push you.” For beginners in the journalism field, sometimes you just have to go and put your foot in the door with the professionals.

On Saturday the 21st, I attended the Bernie Sanders rally with simply a press tag from Segerstrom High School and ended up getting first row seats in the Sanders press conference that preceded the rally itself.

I was nervous when it came to being around professional journalists, worrying if my interview or photography skills were inadequate or unimpressive to these men and women who’ve made a living out with their career.

I didn’t exactly know how to make my presence know in this crowd of press, but fortunately, most, if not all, of the older reporters there have been in a position like mine before so, in essence, I was taken under their wings.

What I learned from following around these journalists, is that in a sitation when you’re stressed and lost, is that there’s always going to be adults out there who’d give you a helping hand. Even after you awkwardly thank them for stepping on your foot.
