Many grew up with the very famous video game series Mortal Kombat and for those who follow the series they know that this isn’t the first movie released of Mortal Kombat. In fact this latest release is the third adaptation movie of Mortal Kombat. Mortal Kombat 2021 is a reboot of the first ever Mortal Kombat movie released in 1995. For those who are new to the franchise of Mortal Kombat, it was released on October 8, 1992 as an arcade game but was later released on consoles as gaming evolved and Mortal Kombat is a fighting game with plenty of gory images and scenes. The movie is directed by Simon Mcquoid and Simon Mcquoid isn’t new to the filming industry but this is the first movie he has directed.

The movie starts off with the famous rivalry of Scorpion and Sub-Zero which many people know as the head rivalry of the franchise, that rivalry is very important to the franchise because they were intended to start the story of the game. The rivalry was first seen in 1992 in the original Mortal Kombat, but it was also thought about by the co-creator of Mortal Kombat John Tobias getting inspiration from a book name “China’s Ninja Connection” that spoke about a ninja and that would later become Sub-Zero and Scorpion was added by John Tobias making his origin Japanese. This film was very similar to Captain America: Civil War as many characters of the Mortal Kombat franchise had split into two groups one lead by Cole Young who is also the main protagonist, and the other group lead by Sub-Zero. This is caused because Cole Young finds out that he is being hunted by Sub-Zero because in the beginning of the movie Sub-Zero fights Hanzo Hasashi aka Scorpion before actually becoming Scorpion and Cole Young is a descendant of Hanzo. Sub-Zero is out for Cole because he wants to end Hanzo’s bloodline, Sub-Zero’s hatred for the bloodline goes deep into his clan’s history. When Hanzo does come back from the deep ends of hell after being killed by Sub-Zero in the beginning of the movie he comes back as Scorpion and is seeking revenge for his family that was Murdered by Sub-Zero.

At the ending of the movie you get to see many fights, one of those being Sub-Zero versus Scorpion. The fight becomes very intense as Cole’s wife and daughter are in danger and at the beginning of the fight it is Cole versus Sub-Zero but then Cole summons his ancestor Scorpion to finish the fight with Sub-Zero. The movie overall did an amazing job with actors, the CGI and the scenery of each scene was amazing.
