Brian Young who worked on seven seasons of The Vampire Diaries is the creator and showrunner of Fate: The Winx Saga alongside three directors, Lisa James Larsson, Hannah Quinn, and Stephen Woolfenden. The Winx Saga is a dark fantasy series that was introduced to Netflix on January 22, 2021. This series follows the lives of fairies at  a magical boarding school in the Otherworld where they must learn how to use their powers while balancing relationships, friendships, and outside threats.The show is based on the animated series, The Winx Club, which aired on Nickelodeon in 2004.  

Fate: The Winx Saga is a live-action adaptation of the Winx Club series. Bloom going to school in the Otherworld has been an eye-opening experience for her, especially when she realizes the Burned Ones want to kill her for the power she holds. Bloom meets an assortment of fairies all bearing complementary powers. We are introduced to the cast Sky, Musa, Terra, Headmistress Dowling, Silva, Aisha, Stella, and Beatrix. Bloom just wants to learn more about her past and her magic, but the more she discovers about her mysterious origins, the more dark secrets she uncovers. But while the characters and their relationships suffer, Fate: The Winx Saga does create a compelling, and good plot.

Fate: The Winx Saga is an entertaining show with an escape into the Otherworld with fairies, specialists, and burned ones.  In my opinion Fate: The Winx Saga is your fantasy drama with its  rebellious female character named Bloom who discovers the unique power she has that makes her special and different from the other fairies. The first episode begins as Bloom  arrives at Alfea. Her parents, who are not fairies, do not  know that she is at the boarding school in Otherworld, but believe her to be somewhere in the Alps. She only discovered she had powers after losing control, and putting her parents in immediate danger. It’s really entertaining watching Bloom discover the great power she has as well as how she will use it. By only having 6 episodes, Fate: The Winx Saga is an  entertaining series to binge.  

The Winx Saga has a darker outlook than the original story and makes this show binge-worthy. Netflix took their own spin on the animated series, especially with the characters’ stories. The 2021 show made their stories more dark and emotional. Bloom learns the brutal reality of where she was born. Stella, another fairy attending Alfea has to deal with heavy emotional trauma due to past experiences and she is emotionally ridiculed by her royal family. The fact that the show isn’t sparkly or bright as the original 2004 show makes it enjoyable to watch.

Fate: The Winx Saga gives the family-friendly 2004 cartoon a harder edge and creates a distinct look of its own that I think is entertaining and worth watching.
