Luis Ortiz is a senior, A&E editor, and a staff writer for The Jag Journal here at Segerstrom High School. Yet, those labels do not show what an impact he has made to this program and to the students in this class. At the beginning of the school year, Luis was more of an introverted person; however, when he edited one of my articles, he was very kind and gave me a lot of helpful suggestions. As the year comes to an end, it is clear that Luis made my second year on The Jag Journal staff very memorable and has made it one of the best experiences in my sophomore year. He has proven to be, time and time again, hardworking, kind, and funny, too. When asked to reflect on this and all the years here at Segerstrom, this is what he had to say:  

1.  What is your favorite memory at Segerstrom High School?

One of my favorite memories is going to prom this year because I got to hang out with my friends for one of the last times before we part ways for college. Also, getting admitted into the University of California, Irvine was a stress reliever because it has gotten harder to get into the school but ultimately, I feel very happy that I made it in. 

2.  How has your experience at Segerstrom shaped your life?

It made me take school more seriously because in middle school I wasn’t as serious about school as I am currently. Back then there weren’t really consequences for failing classes but now it is required that you attend summer school if this ends up being the case. 

3.  What advice do you want to give to the incoming freshman?

Take school seriously because you are soon going to enter adulthood, therefore, there are always consequences to your actions. You have to take into consideration getting the best grades you can every year because colleges look into them and if they see a grade below a C on your transcripts, then that’ll complicate your chances of getting in.
