Luis Gutierrez is currently a senior attending Segerstrom High School. He is a part of The Jag Journal staff, serving as one of the staff writers and the audio engineer for The Jag Journal podcasts. Gutierrez would consider himself an introvert, but that doesn’t stop him from writing. He loves to write stories and watch movies. He is currently writing his own book as well. After graduating from high school, he plans to attend Irvine Valley College with an English major. Gutierrez was given a chance to share some of what he experienced and learned during his time here at Segerstrom.

1.  What is/are your favorite memory(ies) of Segerstrom?

One of my favorite memories at Segerstrom happened in my AP Lang class, in which we did our own escape room.

2.  How has your high school experience at Segerstrom shaped your life?

High school introduced me to many new things, especially when it comes to my education. It helped sparked my interest in writing and I doubt I would have been as passionate about it if it wasn’t for high school.

3.  What are your plans after high school graduation?

After high school, I plan to go to a two-year community college at Irvine Valley College, in which I would major in English. After I complete my two years, I want to transfer to a university out-of-state, preferably Washington State. I am still deciding whether or not I want to get my masters in English, but I know I want to get my teaching credentials and teach high school English in the future.

4.  What is one piece of advice you would give to an incoming freshman?

One piece of advice I would give freshmen is to perform their best. Even though you have just started your four-year journey, it is better to start off well and continue to grow. Don’t fall behind, turn in your assignments on time, and study. You may not know what you want to do now, but every decision you make today could be a stepping stone to an amazing future.
