In November, the Ambassadors of Compassion (AOC) held an ice cream and pizza social. These were run separately by Segerstrom’s baseball and basketball teams. While the AOC program has done commendable work, their efforts deem more recognition across campus.
The AOC program aims to empower students and does community-building projects. Since 2018, Santa Ana Unified School District recognized its potential to provide resources to the community. The partnership with the SAUSD and AOC is a part of their Wellness Center initiative. This year, AOC has been more prominent than ever. Although the program seems to rotate between sports teams, their first event of the year is held with praise. They kickstarted their good deeds when the Baseball and Girls’ Basketball teams held an ice cream social for Segerstrom’s teachers.
“I think that the Ambassadors of Compassion let you talk about your feelings and how to become a united team,” Girls Varsity Basketball Shooting Guard Faith Ledesma (12) remarked. “I think that [the ice cream social] was fun and it was a learning experience.”
The program embraces students’ strengths and is widely known for its community-building projects. The teachers attending appreciate the kind efforts of the ambassadors. The ambassadors created a warm environment to show their gratitude. In addition to the Ice Cream Social, the Boy’s Basketball ambassadors held a Pizza Social for our support staff.
“The program is really good and helpful for the students, it shows us how we can be leaders and be good role models on the campus,” stated Lucas Madrigal (12), Boys Basketball Photographer and Social Media Manager. “[The pizza social] was very engaging and fun to do. And the staff had a lot of fun looking at our posters.”
Based on their efforts, the Ambassadors of Compassion have become role models for Segerstrom. As athletes, they present strong leadership and teamwork skills. This combined with the pizza social, made for a cheerful event for our support staff, who were glad for such an event.
“When I walked in, it seemed like everyone was having a good time. Kids were enjoying it, and obviously, free pizza. Overall, it looked like they were enjoying themselves.” District Security Officer Freddie Gonzalez commented. “[The ambassadors] did a really good job, I saw them serving pizza too, it looked like they were having fun too.”
It seems that the program will continue to be a success at Segerstrom, with hopes of more events like these in the future. In the meantime, they compete in the winter sports season, which is a great time to support their efforts during and outside of school.

Good job on this story. I liked how the AOC did this for the teachers because of their hard work. I learned that this will help students become better individuals.

I like how you explain how the AOC program has been around for years and how their contributions will experience further recognition with this partnership.
