On January 11th, many SAUSD students attended a field trip to tour the new health sciences building at Santa Ana College. Segerstrom’s Higher Education Center helped eager students to sign up and attend the field trip that would take place from their second to fifth period classes.
The 55,138-square-foot building replaced the former Russell Hall Building. The estimated cost for the construction and the demolition was around $58.8 million. The project was three years in the making and was built alongside the construction of a new Science Center. SAC is working to utilize all of the newly added classrooms and laboratories for numerous STEM programs.
That Thursday, many students were excited to visit the new space as it was a day after its grand opening. At SAC, students were welcomed with a tour of the new advancements they now have to offer in each new room.
Due to the attendance of multiple schools across the district, visiting students had a waiting period for unoccupied classrooms. The tour covered many updated programs from the Health Sciences building, including technical pharmacy, nursing, emergency medical technicians, and occupational therapy. For each separate program, students were allowed to speak with a SAC teacher to ask questions and get a brief overview of that career.
Near the end of the tour, students were allowed to visit the resource fair that was organized by SAC. Similar to a club rush, multiple booths were handing out informational flyers for the vast amount of clubs, programs, and classes offered at SAC.
For most students, it was an educational opportunity and a learning experience. Fortunately for Segerstrom, this is only one of many field trips to come from the HEC. If interested in attending other field trips, students should closely monitor their emails for links to sign up.
