Only a small group of students have jobs, but school-wide businesses prove equally rewarding and delicious.
Entrepreneurship is the art of making something out of nothing. It is an act our fellow Segerstrom students have successfully partaken in during their time on campus. Whether through promotion, clientele buildup, or day-to-day classes offered our future business entrepreneurs have it down. They range from all grades and areas of business, like candy, dessert packages, arranged flowers, personalized sports equipment, and cosmetology services. The insight into how our Segerstrom entrepreneurs came to be so creative and successful can only come from them.
When asked, “What prompted you to start your business?” Elena B. (12) responded that she had made batches of strawberries for banquets and treats for her family to enjoy. Loving the idea of others enjoying her creations, she started an Instagram account that expanded from just her family to strangers and friends.
“Segerstrom has promoted and expanded my business by offering random kids to order from me and spreading my business by word of mouth,” she explains.
Much use has come from social media to inform her clients where she is and if she is well-stocked on goodies at all times of the day.
Apart from treats, students have put their talents to good use and have gathered a clientele from schools all over the district. One of our school’s most commonly found Entrepreneurs are those with steady hands and excellent hand-eye coordination, specifically, the cosmetologists and nail technicians.
“Girls began talking about their nails far more until I was fully booked. When I began booking people from other schools, they told me it was because people from my school had recommended me,” said A. Enriquez (10).
Many of the creative ideas from Segerstrom students in starting their lines of business originate from them. Still, the connections made by peers and supporting students have allowed them to continue their business pursuits. The community our school has posed for entrepreneurship has been of significant influence and has built a foundation for future entrepreneurs of society.
