Super Bowl LVIII brought two powerhouses to the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. Held on February 11, 2024, the San Francisco 49ers went up against the Kansas City Chiefs in a game that will go down in NFL history. This was the first time the Super Bowl was in Las Vegas. Along with this, it is the second time a Super Bowl has ever gone into overtime.
For this year’s Super Bowl, the Chiefs, 4-time Super Bowl Champions, went up against the 49ers, the 5-time Super Bowl Champions. The last Superbowl they competed against each other was four years ago at Super Bowl LIV. In that game, the Chiefs beat the 49ers. Similarly, this game ended with the Chiefs winning against the 49ers as the scoreline was 22-25.
“I knew the Chiefs were going to win the game since they have Patrick Mahomes who is arguably the best quarterback in the league for the past six years,” said Franklin Navarro (12).
Patrick Mahomes had performed well as the Chiefs quarterback. In this game alone, Mahomes threw for 333 yards, completed two touchdown passes, and threw one interception. Compared with the 49ers quarterback, Brock Purdy. Prudy threw for 255 yards and had three touchdown passes. The 49ers were winning at halftime with the score being 10-3. The Super Bowl had Usher at the halftime performance, and while he entertained fans, the teams were in the locker room for the halftime speech.
The game’s last two minutes were crucial, as the Chiefs were trailing by three points. The Chiefs Kicker, Harrison Butker, made a 29-yard field goal, sending the game into overtime. The overtime saw the 49ers first possessing the ball but would only get a field goal. Meanwhile, when the Chiefs had possession, they would score a touchdown that won the game.
The Chiefs have cemented themselves as a dynasty because they have won two consecutive Super Bowls. The 49ers will have to work harder to win the next Super Bowl. Football fans must wait until September for the NFL season to start again.
