Female popstar Olivia Rodrigo debuted her sophomore album GUTS on September 8, 2023, which she announced the tour dates for on September 15, 2023. GUTS is Rodrigo’s second album following SOUR, which was released in 2021. The first single she released from the album was “Vampire”, which now has over 1 billion streams. The first show was in Palm Springs at the Acrisure Arena. She had three legs, two North American legs and a European one, which started in Dublin. She sold out four shows in Los Angeles at the Kia Forum.
During this time she had many brand collaborations, including Crumbl, Dr. Martens, and Sony Electronics. Crumbl announced a cookie and called it the GUTS cookie, it follows all the cities she attends, and for that week the cookie will be at a Crumbl location in that city. One of her biggest collabs was with Stanely, which sold out in seconds. She also sold out many shows all over the country.
“I decided to go to the Guts tour because, unfortunately, I wasn’t able to get tickets to the SOUR tour in 2022 and was super devastated that I couldn’t see her, so we attended her second tour this time” says Brianna Scharder (12).
Since dropping her second album she has gained more popularity and fans, and she sold out larger arenas. She kicked off the first tour date in Palm Springs, which is close to her hometown Temecula. She mentioned how she mostly grew up in the city of Riverside, which many fans cheered her on for. Scharder shares the day she attended the concert and her outfit she wore.
“I attended the concert on August 14, 2024 at the Kia Forum with my dad, The Breeders opened for Olivia, the show I went to. I wore a purple dress with my Dr. Martens.”
For the three legs of the tour she had different openers. While for some part of the first North American leg her opener was Chappell Roan, she also had The Breeders, and for the European leg it was Remi Wolf. For her second North American leg it was Pink Pantheress, but unfortunately due to some mental issues Pink Pantheress could not continue, and The Breeders came back for the rest of the North American leg. Rodrigo sang a mix of her two albums throughout the show.
“My favorite song that she played was “Happier” because that’s my favorite Olivia song ever and just to experience live was just everything.” says Scharder.
Many of the songs she played took people back to 2021 when she released SOUR. One thing she did that was a surprise to many fans, was when she went on a moon prop all round the arena, while she sang “logical” and “enough 4 you”. There were also little stars that went around the moon. Scharder shares her favorite moments from the concert.
“My favorite moment of the concert I would say was definitely seeing the barricade walk and the moon part.”
Besides all the shows, in North America there was a bus called the “GUTS Bus Experience”, which was held in different cities that she was performing in. It’s a bus where you can see her outfits from her first tour, and it is filled with Olivia Rodrigo themed items. During the shows she had four outfit changes. For her last outfit change she would wear a white tank top with some sort of joke or saying on the shirt, while for her first show the tank top said “I’m just a girl”. For many, this concert was their first and many people cried and danced. Scharder details how the concert experience went for her.
“My concert experience was really good. I cried during “Happier” and danced the whole concert. I would definitely like to see her again.”
