As a new fall sports season begins, football fans are excited to start watching their favorite teams for another season. Football teams across all levels, including high school, college, and the NFL, have kicked off their seasons, which have made fans interested in how their games will play out.
Our Jaguar football team has started their season off with a bang, winning their first three games with very impressive scores. The varsity team has a 3-1 (W-L) record, winning their first three games by a landslide, then getting their first loss of the season. On 8/23, they started off strong with a 37-0 defeat of Palm Springs High School. They continued their positive momentum by beating Santa Ana Valley High School for our rivalry game with a score of 57-0. Finally, they won their third game on 9/6, beating California High School 50-7. This would be the most impressive game of the season so far because California High School’s team is otherwise undefeated. The Jaguars planned to continue their winning streak on Thursday, 9/12, as they took on El Modena High School, but they fell short, facing a tough loss with a score of 24-49. They plan to work through the rest of this week and next, to improve their skills and strategies in order to win their next game on 9/27 against Troy High School.
This year, the Segerstrom football team has transitioned out of the Golden West League and are now in a new league called Kappa Football. Aside from our Jaguars, this league includes Brea Olinda, Esperanza, Westminster, Garden Grove, and St. Margaret’s High School. The goal is to win the league championship again this season to prove that no matter the league, our Jags will end up on top.
After going through FNL every week, people wake up to College football. Every Saturday we get to see every college play, and many people are super excited to see how this year will play out. Lots of people actually admit that college football has been better than the NFL. Each fan cheers for their team if they are either going there, going to apply there, or are alumni from those schools. College football has always been full of drama and competition. We also get to see players that are influencers and people are able to continue their journey for college to the NFL. Most people love seeing if good teams will have a chance at the national championship or if they’re going to be an underdog this year.
The NFL has always been big in the United States. It’s a great sport that brings people together based on their love of football or the team they have. The professional sport of football has always been the biggest talk throughout its season. Many people enjoy watching the games that are very tight or happen to go into overtime, seeing how the rookies will help or ruin the team, and how each team will come back from their past seasons. Everyone loves a good underdog story- something that has happened multiple times within the NFL. Another way people come together is by the Super Bowl. People can’t wait to throw their Super Bowl watch parties, and this is the time where the NFL gets the most views because of the halftime show. During the halftime show, we see everyone watching- whether they are a football fan or not. Another thing that the NFL has been doing to get people to watch more is making some football games outside of the country like Germany and Brazil, and people are excited to see how this season turns out.
The sport of football brings families and fandoms together to celebrate a team or specific players. Whether it’s through high school, college, or the NFL, people spend their weekends supporting their favorite teams, in hopes that they win big. Only time will tell how the teams will perform in each of the different levels, and who will come out on top.
