On Tuesday, September 17, 2024, McFadden Institute of Technology was put on lock down. The K-8 school was on lock down due to an active shooter on campus. This was the only school around the area to go on lock down.
Lately, there have been multiple threats about school shootings all over the country spreading on social media. On these lists, they include schools that may be put in danger of a shooting next. McFadden has been one of the schools to be listed the most to be a victim of these shootings.
At 2pm, there was a request to the police department to head over to the school. Around 3:15 pm, the school was officially on lock down due to an active shooter on school grounds. After a long and thorough investigation, there was no evidence or signs to show that there was an active shooter on the K-8 campus.
There were many rumors regarding the truth of the situation and the shooting that actually happened around the area. Students at Segerstrom with siblings or family members at the school mentioned that their siblings or cousins were able to hear screams and a gun going off. So many people had many accusations that the shooting may have not happened on campus, but was around the area and for the safety of the students they were put on lock down. Even though the lock down was in place for the safety of the students, many parents are still upset about the fact that they were not informed about the lock down, with not a single call or email.
Since there were no emails or calls, many people were worried that there was something bad happening on campus. Many students in surrounding schools were very scared for their family members at McFadden. There were also two helicopters going around the area. One was the SAPD helicopter trying to search for the shooter from afar, and the second was a news helicopter trying to get as close to the scene without putting their staff in danger. The whole community is glad everyone is safe and there wasn’t an actual shooter on campus.
