The evolution in the world of animated films, with their proper use of the movie budget, and its writing has improved. It would be no coincidence that animation has progressed throughout traditional and modern history. Comparing one animated movie to another, the diversity in art styles, and the movie’s writing, you can see they are not so different. This includes CGI, rendering, and mechanics in fiction movies alike.
Some examples for this year include Inside Out 2, The Garfield Movie, Deadpool and Wolverine, Despicable Me 4, Alien: Romulus, The Watchmen, and Transformers One. These movies share many similarities to films from last year. Examples of these movies would be Spider-Man Across The Spider-Verse, Elemental, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, Trolls Band Together, Barbie and The Super Mario Bros Movie.
All of these films have struck in popularity among both younger and older audiences. Most of these films are either continuations of already made stories, comics, well-known ideas, or series. Inside Out 2, Despicable Me 4, and Trolls Band Together are sequels to previous films. The Garfield Movie is a modern animated movie that is well known in old series and comics. Deadpool and Wolverine is a continuation of the Deadpool films, which also connect back to the original comics. The Barbie movie and Alien: Romulus were not animated but used CGI instead. The Barbie movie was mostly made with minimal CGI and puppetry, with miniature buildings for the background, multiple props, and costume changes. In comparison Alien: Romulus used heavy CGI and even AI to recreate both the iconic monstrous beings in the film, as well as introduce new ones.
Evolution in animated series and films includes Indie animation, between big company-run films and small organizations that produce their work through YouTube or other platforms, which have recently risen in popularity, creating a great audience and recognition. Due to not being a part of great companies or corporations such as Disney, this has inspired smaller artists from various communities to learn how to animate themselves. These artists create short skits and films, bringing their ideas to life. This has brought together communities to make similar projects.
The style in animated films and proper use of their budget has improved and evolved throughout history. Especially in recent times, films have portrayed their messages and small details much better. From the story writing to every digital brush stroke and edit. The majority of the audience’s feedback has been more positive after each film.
