The Colombian star, Shakira, gathered much anticipation for her new tour after being off the road for about 6 years. The last time Shakira went on tour was in 2018, for her “El Dorado Tour” for her album “El Dorado”. During the tour, she performed around four continents and did a total of 54 shows. It was originally supposed to be a tour for 2017, but after vocal damage, the show was canceled.
Now, more hype has built up for a new tour. Shortly after the release of her album “Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran” she made a surprise appearance at Bizarap’s Coachella performance, where she performed “La Fuerte” and “BZRP Music Sessions, Vol. 53”. After performing she announced her much-anticipated tour “Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran World Tour” at the festival and revealed it was originally set to start in the Coachella Valley. The first show was scheduled to start in Palm Desert, California, at the brand new Acrisure Arena on November 2nd.
On Friday, October 18th, 2024, the artist posted on her Instagram two photos with words of appreciation to her fans, thanking them for their support and making this the biggest tour of her career. She also stated that the touring company “Live Nation” said that the demand for tickets was making it necessary for her to do stadium shows with the level of production and demand her shows were set to be taking. This eventually led to the cancellation of all her North American shows which were all meant to take place in arenas.
Many of her fans were outraged with the news. They spent great amounts of money on this tour and were excited to see her just for the news to come in a few weeks before the first initial show was meant to happen. Fans went onto social media to express their disappointment with the artist, as some of them also booked hotel rooms and flights to the locations where the tour was going to be held. Some fans also expressed their belief that this move the artist pulled was just a “money-grab,” as the venues she was set to perform in were certainly smaller capacity compared to big stadiums.
All shows at these arenas were sold out or had very limited tickets, making tickets to this tour very hard to get. Multiple shows were added due to the high demand to see her perform after 6 years. Fans also expressed their support as they believe she wanted more fans to see her with these bigger stadiums.
After all of that on October 21st, 2024, Shakira announced her newly rescheduled shows at some of the most innovative stadiums in the United States including the MetLife stadium and SoFi stadium. Although many of her stops are in large stadiums, she is still performing in Arenas in certain locations such as Houston.
Despite this, many of her Chicago fans were still angered by the cancellation of her shows due to her not having a day for Chicago. The original Chicago show was set to be held at the United Center, but on the new North American tour announcement Chicago is nowhere to be seen- even as one of the most populated cities in the United States. Many fans questioned why the artist didn’t plan a show in the Soldier Field stadium, which is similar in capacity to other stadiums she is performing at.
As of now, Shakira is set to start her tour in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil, instead of the originally scheduled show at the Acrisure Arena. Her North American leg will commence in Charlotte, North Carolina on May 13th, 2024, at the Bank of America Stadium and will run through June 30th, 2024 while currently having a scheduled performance in San Francisco, California, at Oracle Park.
