In late October, the Los Angeles Dodgers clinched their eighth World Series Championship title, exciting their fans and making the entire city of Los Angeles proud. They defeated the New York Yankees in the 4-1 game series, almost a full sweep. The final game on October 30th was very tight, with the Dodgers coming back from the Yankee’s five-point lead.
The entire series held many memorable moments, especially Freddie Freeman’s walk-off grand slam in Game 1 of the series. His grand slam made history, as it was the first grand slam ever hit in any World Series games. Freeman went on to hit home runs in almost every game of the series. Freeman defied the odds during the series, as he faced many injuries that would not only take others out of games, but entire seasons. During the series, Freeman was suffering from pain from broken rib cartilage, as well as a severe ankle sprain. He was advised to stop playing for the rest of the series, but his resilience encouraged him to push through and continue playing. His outstanding performance as well as his determination pushed him to become the World Series’ MVP.
In addition to Freeman, many other key players contributed to the championship title, such as Mookie Betts, Clayton Kershaw, and Corey Seager. One specific player, Shohei Ohtani, did not contribute to the win as much as people expected. Known for his impressive batting skills, Ohtani didn’t hit a single home run throughout the series. In fact, in the entire World Series, he only got two hits in total. His performance shocked many people, given that Ohtani switched from the Los Angeles Angels team to the Los Angeles Dodgers in hopes to play in the World Series. Now that he was in the series, many expected him to have record breaking hits, but his performance lacked.
Overall, the Los Angeles Dodgers made their fans and their entire home town very excited with the win, while Yankees’ fans went home disappointed. On November 1st, Dodgers fans lined the streets of Los Angeles celebrating the team at a parade. The parade started at City Hall then went through Downtown Los Angeles, before arriving at their home stadium. Thousands of fans showed up to the parade as early as camping out the night before so they could ensure they would get a good view of the team. After the parade was a special ticketed event inside the stadium which helped raise money for the Los Angeles Dodger Foundation.
This World Series win made many people around the world and especially in Los Angeles very happy. The last time the Dodgers won the World Series was in 2020, and fans weren’t able to properly celebrate the team due to the COVID-19 pandemic. So, the fans utilized this opportunity to celebrate correctly. The Dodgers hope to continue their winning streak next season, as they are bringing new talent to the team, and they will have returning talent as well.
