It’s Tuesday, November 4th, and a lucky day if you’re one of the students invited from Art II and AP Studio Art. Students apart of these classes had the opportunity to visit the wonderful museum that is the Getty and experience the interesting and captivating exhibits.
Students were to arrive at school at eight in the morning, making their way to Jaguar Way where buses usually park. There were two buses to hold the amount of people on their way to the museum, which was almost two hours from the school. Not only did the students get to spend time with their friends in a fun way, but they missed school while they were at it.
When students arrived at the museum, they were led to a private area where there was the opportunity to drop off or eat food, since the tour would start soon, and leave personal belongings in a safe spot. Students were split into groups from there and assigned a docent, all of which were volunteering their time and knowledge, to guide them through some of the exhibits. Some came with supplies for short activities, most with a fun fact or two on the paintings or sculptures.
Students went through the tour, which took most of the time of the field trip. With the short amount of time left over, students could visit the gift shop, get food from a restaurant or coffee from the café carts, or explore the serene garden and numerous artworks. Even the architecture of the museum itself is something to marvel at, fossils in the Italian material and framing of the environment outside.
It wasn’t just a fun field trip to look at pretty pictures. For many students, it was a chance to see the reality of what could become of a great artist and that great art comes in many forms. On top of that, a small group of students from Segerstrom News tagged along to produce many forms of media- articles, pictures, and much more.
All in all, the experience was wonderful for all parties involved. If you want to see the art for yourself, the Getty is free to enter with only a fee for parking.
