As the new semester comes around, many are taking advantage of the fresh start to begin their journey trying new things. From schedule changes to sports tryouts, our Segerstrom Jaguars are ready to kickstart their beginning in bulking up a college application and becoming outstanding scholars.
Many do this by founding their own clubs, like sophomore Trina Ngyuen, who brought SFHS CHOC to campus. What is SFHS CHOC? What does it entail?
SFHS CHOC is a club dedicated to recognizing children’s health. Through volunteering, they strive to give back to children diagnosed with cancer, living with disabilities, and those who are sick. But starting your own club is not an easy task, she describes.
“The process was a bit difficult since I had to brainstorm with my vice president on who to recruit, finding events, organizing dates for meetings and more.” says Ngyuen.
As with anything, inspiritates to begin must come from somewhere. With such important causes, many of them are personal to the founder and hit them close to home. Whether it be for homelessness, wellness, or something else, many students strive to be the change they want to see in their community and the progress they hope to make in the world. Trina explains the reasoning behind her choice in beginning a club like CHOC.
“I wanted to start a club because I wanted to gather a community where people genuinely want to help kids who need it. I also wanted to fundraise enough to later do cancer research with my club and start a nonprofit.”
Whether it be a club for their own personal benefit, or a cause that they are passionate about, a club is a great way to start. It may take a plan, paperwork, and perseverance, but there is always an idea and always a place to start. SFHS CHOC has their own Instagram page where you can catch up on meeting details and how to participate, so go check them out to support a good cause and a new club!
