![New Year, New schoolwork! Students return to school after a restful winter break. Without having as many tutorials as we are accustomed to, students must re-prioritize and bring their studious mindsets back.](https://segerstromnews.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/storycover5_20250130123153.png)
As we enter the second week of the new semester of the 2025 school year, students must keep their New Year’s goals set and prepare for upcoming exams. Time becomes the most valuable and important priority for students. This year, compared to last semester and students from last year, we are finding out which schedule is more beneficial for students’ studies.
Compared to last semester, we are starting with fewer tutorial schedules to have time to settle into the new year. This subtle change can affect student’s plans for their studies depending on how they utilize their time. Last school year, tutorials were not available or an actual thing known to students, and many were only familiar with the homeroom schedule. The main difference is that students can decide where they want to spend their forty minutes, whether it be to study for a class or makeup work they were unable to complete outside of school.
“I think the tutorial is better than homeroom. It’s been more useful because we don’t do anything in the homeroom. Meanwhile, in tutorials, we get to go to the class we need and work on things we need. I’d say it’s better than having no tutorials last year, and that it’s beneficial with my AP classes.” says senior Emely Murgia Ramirez.
Now without as many tutorial schedule days available, students must work on things they would before in their own time. This is a good opportunity to go into the library during lunch or before or after school to complete anything necessary. This time would be especially valuable for AP students who have upcoming exams in May to take in additional reviewing.
It is safe to say that Tutorials benefit students who need to retake tests or make up classwork. They also allow teachers to offer students any review or extra lessons they may need. Students can meet together for any projects they need to complete. Meanwhile, homeroom only gives access to one teacher and offers time.
