As winter sports seasons come to an end, the spring season athletes are getting ready for their seasons to begin. The spring season sports include baseball, softball, boys and girls lacrosse, boys and girls swimming, boys and girls track and field, boys volleyball, boys tennis, and competitive cheer. Many of their seasons have already begun, while others are anticipating their first games very soon.
Our baseball team currently has a record of 3-3 (W-L), with their last game being a loss against Irvine High School on March 1st. They hope to improve in order to win their next game on March 4th against Aliso Niguel, which is away. Their next home game will be on March 14th against Kennedy at 3:15.
Softball has a few games in the record book as well, their record being 3-5. Their last game was an away game against Palos Verdes on March 1st, where they lost 2-7. Their next game is a home game against Troy High School at 3:30pm.
Our track and field team had their last meet on Saturday, March 1st. At this meet, the school record for the medley relay was broken by our distance team. Track and field athletes plan to continue dropping in times. Their next meet will be on Thursday, March 6th.
Senior Alondra Cifuentes shares her goals for the season. “This season is very important for me because it is my last one. My goal is to break my personal record in shot put, which will be difficult, but I am willing to put in the hard work,” she explains.
The boys lacrosse team has a few games under their belt, but are still finding their team dynamic. They currently have a record of 0-5, with their last game being a 1-11 loss against Downey on February 28th. They hope to get their first win against Roosevelt high school at home on March 3rd at 4:00pm.
Girls lacrosse is in a very similar situation, for they have a record of 0-5 as well. Their last game was on March 1st, where they lost 0-19 against El Dorado. They strive to get their first win on March 4th, where they play an away game against Rosary Academy at 3:30pm. Their next home game will be on March 18th, where they will play against California High School at 4:00pm.
Both girls and boys swimming have also begun their seasons, with one meet already completed. Their first meet was a tri-meet against both Calvary and Loara. The athletes are still awaiting the scoring for that meet, but they are confident that they scored well. Their next meet at home is on March 4th against Anaheim High School at 3:30pm.
Senior Christopher Esparza explains his thoughts as the season begins. “I feel nervous but excited for the new swim season and I’m looking forward to breaking personal records and pushing myself to new lengths while making memories with my teammates,” he says.
Boys volleyball also has a few games completed, as their current record is 2-6. At their last game, our Jaguars were victorious against Laguna Hills, with a score of 3-0. Their next game will be on March 4th at 4:30pm against Valencia. If you want to catch a home game, the next one is on March 11th at 5:00pm against Costa Mesa.
The boys tennis team’s last recorded match was on February 27th, where they were defeated by Bolsa Grande with a score of 8-10. Their next match will be at home on March 4th at 3:15pm against Capistrano Valley High School.
The competitive cheer team has yet to compete, but they are looking forward to their first tournament, which will be March 7th through 8th at HIU.
Our athletes are very excited that their seasons are beginning, and only time will tell how well they will do. As our Jaguars continue to put in the work day in and day out, they will strive to meet their individual and team goals.
