Our Editor-In-Chief of Digital Media, Alondra Cifuentes, is officially riding off into the sunset and settling down in the south. After four years in Journalism, she received the honor of becoming Editor-In-Chief of Digital Media for the program. Alondra looked over the media and made sure the videos were precise and the best quality for the website. Alondra participated in the color guard program for two years and she was also in the Track & Field team. Alondra has committed to Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, majoring in Sports Medicine. Although she will be packing up soon, Alondra will have a lasting effect on the Journalism program as many of the projects that were able to be accomplished were because of her leadership and dedication. We wish Alondra well in her navigation through her adulthood and we hope to see her accomplish her hopes and dreams!
1) Tell us a little bit about yourself?
I’m the youngest in my family, with two older brothers, and I’m also a proud aunt to six amazing nephews and nieces who bring so much joy into my life. I’m half Colombian and half Guatemalan, and I really value the culture and traditions that come from both sides of my family. In my free time, I love to read and build Legos—it’s something that helps me relax and express my creativity. I also enjoy dancing, especially at parties where I can just have fun and be myself. Throughout high school, I’ve been involved in color guard and track, both of which have helped me stay active and meet new people. One of my favorite things to do is take late-night drives to the beach and grab some ice cream—it’s the perfect way to unwind. I also have a big passion for traveling and exploring new places whenever I get the chance.
2) What is/are your favorite memory(ies) at Segerstrom High School?
My favorite memory at Segerstrom High School was making so many new friendships and getting to spend time with those friends both in and out of school. Whether it was laughing during lunch or hanging out after school either getting food or hanging out at the malls, those moments made high school truly special.
3) How has your high school experience at Segerstrom shaped your life?
My high school experience at Segerstrom has taught me some tough real-life lessons that have truly shaped who I am today. It’s helped me grow and mature, especially when I look back at my younger self who thought she understood the world. These experiences have made me stronger and more prepared for what’s ahead.
4) What are your plans after graduation?
After graduation, I plan to attend LSU to pursue a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology. My goal is to continue my education by earning a master’s degree and becoming an athletic trainer. Eventually, I hope to return to school to complete a Ph.D. and fulfill my dream of becoming a team physician.
5) What is one piece of advice you would give to an incoming Freshman?
One piece of advice I would give to an incoming freshman is to stop overthinking the things you can’t control—whether it’s friendships, relationships, or even school stress. Focus on what you can manage and always put yourself first, because taking care of your mental and emotional well-being will set you up for success in the long run.
