Our Senior Section Editor Celeste Carmona is transitioning to an exciting new part of her life, as she officially graduates from Segerstrom High School and moves on to pursue higher education at Cal State Long Beach. For the past two years with Segerstrom News, she’s shown what it means to be dedicated and to take initiative, and is sure to leave behind a great example of what it means to be a leader. We have nothing for Celeste but well wishes!
1) Tell us a little about yourself?
Hi, I’m Celeste, a varsity water polo scholar athlete with four years of experience in the pool and a love for hard work and competition. I’m also an editor for Segerstrom News, where I’ve had the opportunity to write and meet new people for the past two years. Outside of my academic and athletic pursuits, I’m a Disneyland lover with an Inspire Magic Key, always looking for my next adventure in the park. When I need to unwind, you’ll find me at the beach, enjoying the sunset, or sipping on a large cup of iced coffee. I love being organized, staying creative, and exploring new places in and out of the country.
2) What is your favorite memory from your time at Segerstrom?
One of my favorite memories at Segerstrom has to be the Friday night football games. The vibe was always so fun, and it was awesome being part of the school spirit. Winning the league championship for water polo my senior year was definitely a highlight too. All the hard work we put in paid off, and celebrating that win with my teammates made it all the more special
3) How has your high school experience at Segerstrom shaped your life?
My time at Segerstrom has really shaped who I am. It taught me how to manage stress, especially balancing sports, academics, and extracurriculars. I also learned how to be a leader and engage with different people, whether in class or during events. Through all of my challenges, I figured out how to stay focused and be successful, even when things got overwhelming.
4) What are your plans after graduation?
After graduation, I’m planning to attend Cal State Long Beach to major in Public Health and minor in Psychology. My goal is to go to med school after that and eventually become a neurosurgeon. I’ve always been fascinated by the brain and how it works, and I want to be able to help people in a meaningful way.
5) What is one piece of advice you would give to an incoming freshman?
One piece of advice I would give to an incoming freshman is to get involved in school activities like sports and clubs, it really elevates your time here and makes it so much more fun. The friends you meet along the way make your high school experience so much better. However, do be sure to keep your circle small–it is better to have a few close friends than a lot of fake friends.
