One of ASJ’s most recent activities for students has been field trips. Their first outing was at the movie theater for Captain America: Brave New World, and their most recent trip was to Boomers. These fun trips encourage Segerstrom friends and students alike to come together for an enjoyable time. They also allow students to spend more time with their friends and can help seniors create fun memories to finish off the school year, as well as make students’ time spent after school much more engaging and fun.
The diverse options offered at the park allow students to expose themselves to new activities.
“I enjoyed being able to explore and play the variety of games around Boomers. Such as the smaller rides and arcade games I got to try. My favorite thing was being able to experience it with a friend,” shares senior Vanessa Perez.
To go, students must sign up for interest through QR codes on posters around the library. They are then selected through a lottery system to be followed up for information about permission slips. As usual, students are given a deadline to return them. The field trips take place after school, with access granted based on the program. This could mean free popcorn at the theaters or limited access to certain places on the trip.
After School Jags, along with various other programs, are fortunate enough to be able to provide such opportunities for students to expose.
“Although I don’t have any suggestions, I believe that schools should receive more funding because the students can go on trips and explore. It could motivate them to be more involved in school, or even encourage students to socialize more with their classmates,” explains Perez.
Thanks to the great efforts of the ASJ advisors, staff, and others, students can enjoy trips such as these and spend time with their friends. Not only are they going out of their way to plan for them, but they also go as far as to provide add ons for the trip, such as snacks and more. Segerstrom students are grateful for the wonderful support from the ASJ staff.
