Segerstrom wrestlers are in need of new equipment, with many of their main facilities being worn down by the years. Namely, their wrestling mat, an essential aspect of their sport, lies in a battered state and needs to be replaced as soon as possible. As a result, the program’s captains have suggested to fundraise to afford new supplies to continue working at their best.
Wrestling captain, senior Emily Marquez, remarks that the wrestling room is in poor condition currently. “We got a broken cabinet…and holes in the mat…there are cracks in the wall and it leaks,” Emily explains.
Both captains, seniors Emily Marquez and Jared Reyes, are planning to sell food at the school’s upcoming Pumpkin Fest. Many of the wrestlers happen to be bakers and cooks in their free time, giving way towards baked goods being a revenue source. They plan on selling crepes, flan, and cheesecake, with prices around 7 dollars.
Emily says that the purchasing of new equipment “won’t happen this year.” When asked what she hoped the program would gain from their fundraising, she states she’d aim for “[getting] a new mat,” and “[getting] them [lower classmen wrestlers] new gear.” Hopefully, Segerstrom’s wrestlers will earn enough to ensure having a proper wrestling room to work at their best.
