Across the world, millions of fans are excited for Grey’s Anatomy and its final season.

After 420 episodes and 19 seasons, Grey’s Anatomy has reached its final season. Grey’s Anatomy is one of the longest-running scripted television shows ever produced. The show portrays several medical interns and their careers in the fictional Seattle Grace Hospital, later renamed the Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital. The medical drama has lasted nineteen years since its first airing in 2005. However, season 20 marks the end of an era for Grey’s Anatomy.

The TV show focuses on five interns and their pursuits throughout Seattle Grace Hospital’s surgical department. The show began with Meredith Grey as a surgical intern, ambitious to further her career. Being the daughter of Ellis Grey, a famous attending general surgeon, Meredith was motivated to make a name for herself. She navigates past the many complexities both inside and outside of her medical career. Alongside Meredith are the other four surgical interns: Cristina Yang, Izzie Stevens, Alex Karev, and George O’Malley. They all strive to excel in their careers and to tend to their patients. Mentoring the interns was Miranda Bailey, a no-nonsense but compassionate surgical resident. The cast additionally had doctors: Derek “McDreamy” Shepherd, Richard Webber, and Preston Burke. Together, they worked to progress in their careers and relationships.

Throughout Grey’s Anatomy, other characters would join the main cast, each bringing unique stories and struggles. Some of those cast members were Addison Montgomery, Mark “McSteamy” Sloan, Lexie Grey, Callie Torres, Arizona Robbins, and Owen Hunt. These additions gave Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital more diverse yet complicated personalities. Their characters would later contribute to romances, heartbreaks, and personal growth. This combination made Grey’s Anatomy a fan favorite for many.

As the series continued, the show had many integrated controversial topics. These episodes have addressed sexual assault, addiction, mental illness, abortion, and other pressing issues at the time. However, Grey’s Anatomy has always carried a powerful message behind these topics, providing viewers with a show they could resonate with and appreciate.

Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end, and fans of Grey’s Anatomy are ecstatic about the conclusion of the Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital.
