On Wednesday, January 10, an assembly was held in the gym for the class of 2024. The assembly’s objective was to inform students about upcoming senior-exclusive events and provide details regarding the college application process. This assembly addressed many questions and concerns about the spring semester and offered helpful information and advice to keep seniors organized and prepared for the upcoming season.
The first important date for seniors is Saturday, February 3. This marks the kickoff of the financial aid application season, although students are free to begin applying before this date. However, students and parents are highly encouraged to attend this event if they would like to receive additional support. Students are required to bring their Chromebook and birth certificate, while parents must bring their 2022 federal tax forms. All of these items are necessary to apply for financial aid. Workshops will be held in both Spanish and English, and the event will commence at 9:00 AM.
The deadline for completing the 2024 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is Tuesday, April 2, but students are encouraged to finish a month before. Seniors must remember to complete this form; submitting it is one of Segerstrom’s graduation requirements.
If seniors have applied to four-year universities, they must commit to attending one by Wednesday, May 1.
Seniors may not attend certain recreational events if they have not paid off their student fees by Friday, February 9.
Prom will take place on Saturday, May 1, from 7:00 to 11:00 PM. This event will be followed by Senior Sunset on Friday, May 24. Senior Lock-In will be on Tuesday, May 28. Caps, gowns, and tickets for graduation will be distributed at this event. Graduation will occur on Wednesday, May 29.
Grad Nite is planned for Friday, May 31, and will take place at Universal Studios. This event is organized by Segerstrom’s football team instead of ASB.
In addition to reviewing the senior calendar, counselors advised the class of 2024 at the senior assembly. They acknowledged that seniors might feel drained during the spring semester, especially after the hectic college application process in the fall. However, they emphasized the importance of maintaining good grades and warned against disregarding the academic aspects of school. Many universities require final senior transcripts, and lackluster grades may influence the final admission decision. Counselors also encouraged students to apply for as many scholarships as possible.
Students should regularly check their SAUSD email accounts for future updates on senior events as details are finalized. Should students encounter obstacles applying for financial aid and scholarships, Segerstrom’s Higher Education Center is a great source of support.
