At roughly 8:30 A.M., March 30, 2026, a 15-year-old student from the Hill Country College Preparatory High School in Bulverde, Texas, would fatally shoot himself after shooting his teacher.
The Hill Country College Preparatory High School opened in August 2020, and now serves grades 9 through 12 with approximately 260 students enrolled. The school is a part of the Comal Independent School District with the core curriculum focusing on science, technology, engineering, arts, and math (STEAM).
Before the school day began, students reported hearing loud banging and screamings coming from the second floor of the school, where teachers would reportedly crowd students into their classrooms to protect them.
Authorities would reach the campus swiftly after the first call was made, and placed the school on lockdown. Students would then be evacuated to Bulverde Middle School to be reunited at a safe location.
It’s unknown the current condition of the injured teacher, nor the connection to the student at the moment. However, the same can not be said for the teenage boy who was declared deceased at HCCPHS.
During this shooting nobody else was injured; however, students are likely to be extremely traumatized after experiencing this situation. Thankfully, authorities acted quickly and effectively to resolve the situation with everyone’s safety in mind.
It’s unfortunate that incidents like this one have become so common where authorities have already worked every single problem out of the situation. While that fact itself may be comforting for the people stuck in a shooter situation, it’s saddening that the possibility of a school shooting has become a fact of life.
Students all over the world, even here at Segerstrom, are becoming extremely aware and desensitized to the idea of a school shooting occurring at any moment of the day. This is especially true from the numerous false lockdowns we’ve had, experiencing the fear of a possible threat on campus regardless. This should never be the case, students are going to school for an education, not to fear for their life.
Stay safe Jags, and remember to engage fully in lockdown drills to know how to keep yourself safe in case of an emergency.
