If you asked anyone close to Fernie what he’s most well known for in Journalism, it would have to be being the mastermind behind the potlucks we’ve held throughout the year. Or maybe playing Theme Park Tycoon on Roblox and forcing people to go on his rollercoasters. But as this year comes to an end, Segerstrom News’ social media manager, podcast host, former Word on the Street host, self-proclaimed HR manager and much more is graduating and embarking on a new journey at IVC! Fernando’s interesting personality and his riveting life accounts during fourth period will be very missed.
1) Tell us about yourself.
Hello world, I am Fernando Torres Catalan also known as Fernie. I have been in Journalism for 4 years doing a diversity of jobs over the years. I would say I am pretty hilarious, not to brag. I am an aspiring star because I need to get famous to get my dream house and meet the people I want to meet. I really like music and I am very passionate about the artists I like. I love going to concerts and hanging out with my friends when I lowkey feel like it. I like being happy!
2) What is your favorite memory at Segerstrom?
My favorite memory at Segerstrom is when I almost fell into a dumpster on Halloween of 2024 #thefallof2024. I also liked the potlucks in Journalism #yummy.
3) How has your high school experience here in Segerstrom shaped you?
My experience here shaped me by showing me to not trust everyone cause people will lowkey always be out to get you, but overall academically it taught me to be more responsible with my time management.
4) What are your plans after graduation?
I plan to go to Irvine Valley College for my associates in Economics then transfer to UCLA for my bachelors in Econ, unless I decide to be a doctor then we will go that route. Above all I plan to be famous and make it big or else I will be big sad, so if Republic Records or any other record label is reading this I am ready 😉
5) What is one piece of advice you would give to incoming freshmen?
The biggest piece of advice I would give to incoming Freshman is to never trust anyone with your deepest darkest secrets unless you truly know that they will never tell anyone. A lot of the friends you will make will be lowkey fake so watch out. Stay on top of your work because you will suffer the consequences later and that is a promise. Finally, be happy and don’t let anyone take that away.
