NHS welcomes their Senior Inductees at their candle-lighting ceremony last week.

Segerstrom’s National Honor Society (NHS) recently hosted its annual induction ceremony. On November 1st, they held a candle-lighting ceremony for their thirty-six inductees. While we are in the second grading period of the year, NHS is beginning its club with a strong start.

Advised by AP Language and Comprehension teacher Mrs. Conferti, NHS is known for its active role around campus. Previously, they collaborated with Project Planet A and the California Scholarship Federation. Both are community service-based and have benefited Segerstrom with their campus cleanups. The NHS has always contributed to school events like Club Rushes, Pumpkin Fest, and Winter Fest. Although they are heavily involved with Segerstrom, there are standards all members and inductees must uphold.

The NHS’s core values are scholarship, service, leadership, and character. Those standards have been the foundation of the club since the first NHS’s founding in 1921. These standards are found across thousands of NHS chapters throughout North America and Asia. However, the requirements to be accepted are stricter compared to other clubs. With a GPA requirement of 3.5 and 10 hours of community service a semester, it shows that NHS aims for students with academic excellence. Many colleges respect the merits of the club, and NHS offers scholarship opportunities to the senior inductees. Nevertheless, the NHS would like to recognize the inductees for the 2023-2024 school year:

I appreciated how you included our core values! Scholarship, service, leadership, and character. As an NHS senior inductee, I have enjoyed being in this club and I believe that you gave us a good title since we aren’t very recognized throughout school! Great story Josh!
